A Little About Me

Hello everyone, my name is April. I'm an average, everyday housewife. I like anything that has to do with paper, pens, or handmade anything. I adore Scottish Terriers, my family, history, old houses and a great story. I read often, between four and nine books a month. I read them, actual eyes on words, no audio books or comic books. I read slowly, savoring the story, trying to hear each character's voice. I have a terrible case of "whole set syndrome" so when I find an author I like (and I like way too many), I find the need to read everything they've written. I also love telling others when I've found a great story, who can resist a great escape? I'm a housewife that detests cleaning, a great escape is my business!

Update as of October 2018:

A note to authors:

As of late I've been receiving a great many ARCs from publishers. In addition, I've been getting a large amount of review requests directly from authors. I am so very fortunate! Please know that I am very grateful to you all. However, because of these wonderful mail days and writer requests I have lots to read. My point is, it may take me a while to get to your book. Do I mean six months? No. Will I start it tomorrow? Probably not. I want you to be aware of this as I KNOW the work that goes into your book. I know it is your baby. When I do read it I promise to be respectful and give it my full attention.

You may want to read some of my negative reviews; there are only a few, as I really like most of what I read (a testament to so many great writers). When I don't like something I tell the blog readers why, but also acknowledge that this is just my opinion and many people certainly think otherwise. That is a good thing. If everything was written for my taste the book world would be a very boring place. For example, I recently read a book that I thought was concluded with no explanations and frankly, at the end I didn't even know if the main characters were dead or alive. I was telling my husband about the story and why I didn't like it. He thought it was fantastic, artsy, imaginative and very Twilight Zone. While I thought the ending was unsatisfying, he thought it was absolutely brilliant.  Please know, I'm just a housewife that likes to read with a light-hearted blog, I fully realize I am NOT an expert on your book. I would NEVER bad mouth any book in any way. However, I will, if possible, sing its praises to everyone I can.

While I've pretty much identified myself as a thriller girl, my tastes are being expanded daily. I even read a fabulous graphic novel. While I maintain I'm not a fantasy reader, some of my favorites are fantasy. I guess what I am saying is that after being exposed to many more authors who write out of the genre I would normally buy, my tastes have expanded to more of the story itself and not a classification.

Please know that I will always respect your work. I hope your book is hugely successful with many more to come and you can count me as a fan!
